Send the Car is a Fulcrum Product Works product in Atlanta, GA. This page covers the founding dealer waitlist and a trade-in someone sends through a dealer's link (a link that starts with /t/).
Trade-ins
A dealer shares a link. If you open it and send a car, you are sending that car to that dealership.
You provide:
- The VIN, or you can continue without one. Without a VIN, you enter the year, make, and model yourself.
- Mileage.
- Whether there is an open loan or lease payoff on the car. If there is, you can add the amount owed and the lender. Both are optional. You can say you don't know the lender.
- Your name, phone number, and email.
- Whether you are looking to replace the vehicle. If you are, you can add a note about what you want.
- Photos of the car. The photo guide asks for its required shots before you can send. If you skip the guide, you still add at least one photo. On a damage close-up you can add a short note. We do not keep a note on other photos.
- An optional note for the dealer ("Anything else the dealer should know?"). If you leave it blank, we do not store one. If you write one, it is saved with the submission and included in the salesperson's email.
Each photo is saved to our photo storage as soon as you add it, before you send the car. Taking a photo off the form, or leaving without sending, does not delete that file. Until you send the car, this browser keeps your answers and the photo references for that link on this device.
If you type a full 17-character VIN, we send that VIN to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vPIC service to look up the year, make, and model. We do not send your name, phone, or email with it. We look it up when you enter the VIN, and again when you send the car if you did not continue without a VIN. If you continue without a VIN, we store no VIN and we do not look it up again on send. A lookup that already ran is not undone. If a lookup fails, we still save what you entered.
Why we collect a trade-in
We use it so the dealership whose link you used can value the car and contact you.
Who receives a trade-in
The submission is stored for the dealership whose link you used. When email is configured, the salesperson on that link gets an email. The link in that email opens the submission without a dealer login for 7 days, and then it stops working. A copy of the email stays in that inbox.
People signed in for that dealership can also open it:
- An owner or admin can see every submission for the dealership.
- A member can see submissions from their own links.
Those signed-in views still work after the email link expires. An operator signed in with the site admin session can open a submission to run the service.
If the dealership saves a CRM lead email, we also email what you submitted to that address as a standard ADF lead, for the dealer's own CRM. We send it only when the dealer configures that address.
We use these service providers to run the site:
- Hosting: Vercel.
- Database: Postgres. When the database host is Neon, Neon holds the rows.
- Email: Resend.
- Photo storage: on the hosted site, photos go into a private Vercel Blob store. The submission keeps the photo's path, not a public URL.
- Analytics: Vercel Web Analytics is loaded on every page, including this form. It records page visits.
We don't sell this information.
How dealers may share your vehicle
The dealership whose link you used decides what to do with your car. To value it, a dealership may ask other licensed dealers for wholesale offers. If it does this through Send the Car, it sends those dealers a link to a page about the vehicle. That page shows only:
- Year, make, model and VIN.
- Mileage.
- The photos of the car that the dealership chooses to include.
- The name of the salesperson and the dealership's phone number, so the other dealers contact the dealership, not you.
The page never shows:
- Your name, phone number or email.
- Whether you have a loan, your lender or your payoff amount.
- Anything you typed, such as a note for the dealer or what you're looking for.
Photos are re-saved on your phone before upload, which removes location data such as GPS coordinates. Dealerships are asked not to include photos that show a license plate, a person, a document or a home address.
A shared page stops working after 30 days, or sooner if the dealership stops sharing it. The shared page tells the dealers who view it not to try to identify or contact you. Any offer, and any sale, is between you and the dealership you sent your car to.
You see a short notice about this before you send your car. A car sent before that notice was added can't be shared this way.
How long we keep a trade-in
We keep the submission so the dealer can value the car and reach you. The product does not delete it on a schedule. If that dealership is removed from Send the Car, its submissions are removed from our database. Photo files are stored separately, and removing a submission does not by itself delete those files.
Email hello@sendthecar.com and ask us to delete it or correct it. We will delete or correct what we still hold.
Founding dealer waitlist
When you join the list, we collect:
- Dealership name
- Your name
- Mobile number
The second step is optional. If you fill it in, we also collect:
- City
- How customers and sellers send you photos now
- Notes
We use this information to contact you about early access to Send the Car.
Signups are stored in the database. When notification email is configured, we email ourselves a notice for each signup so we can follow up.
We don't sell it.
Dealer sign-in
Dealers sign in with an email link. If Google sign-in is turned on for the site, Google handles that sign-in. A sign-in session record includes fields for an IP address and the browser's user agent. If someone asks for a login with an email that is not a dealer account, we email that address to ourselves.
To ask us to delete or correct waitlist or account information, email hello@sendthecar.com.
